Asphalt pavement is primarily a rock, stone and gravel, combination mixed along with binding agent. The rock, or aggregate, is held together primarily with this binder also known as an asphalt cement. The binding agent is created from certain crude oils. Maintaining the binding is crucial in prolonging the deterioration of asphalt surfaces. Rain, U.V. rays, and chemicals, are left on the asphalt, and will deteriorate the binding agent beginning the degradation process. This continues and will create a brittle surface.
To reduce these effects, it is important to use a maintenance program using sealcoating to extend the life of your surface. Sealcoating provides a layer of protection blocking out: water, oils, and U.V. damage. If applied according to the manufacturers’ specifications, sealcoating will provide a slip resistant surface with a beautiful finish. Sealcoats are mostly bituminous based or acrylic products.
The sealcoat is a sprayable liquid emulsion primarily derived from a coal tar combination or liquid petroleum resin that is mixed with water, silica sand, polymer additives, and other fillers or solids. The sand adds a necessary durability to the final product. The other agents help hold the sand suspended during the application process and ads a UV resistance that can also lend a deeper black color. The sealcoat can be brushed on or sprayed on. A regularly maintained sealcoating program can more than double the life expectancy of your asphalt pavement, saving you a ton of money down the road. Instead of paying for new pavement, it is more cost effective to use seal coating to maintain your surface.
A seal coat is designed to be a protective layer, Sealcoat can be a low-cost surface that will protect asphalt pavements that are still in good condition compared to a unprotected surface that has been left exposed to multiple seasons of long-term sunlight, water, salt, oil, chemicals, gasoline and other vehicle fluids. A good seal coat that is applied every 3-5 years, can be a smooth, wearable layer that could nearly double the lifecycle of your asphalt pavement.

Asphalt Paving Seal Coat is applied in 2- spray coat applications using a spray rig trailer system.
If Seal Coat is applied within the first year of the new asphalt pavement, the lifecycle of Seal Coat with an average traffic is 3 – 5 years.
